Food Fight: The Battle of the Buns

Could you pick the all-time best pork bun if your life depended on it? That’s exactly what our Tastemakers Immaculate Infatuation set out to do with this week’s Food Fight. This might not sound like a matter of life or death to you, but Tastemaker Andrew Steinthal claims his pick was one of the single best bites of his life. The contenders in the ring are a couple of NYC Goliaths: David Chang’s momofuku and new Japanese import IPPUDO. We here at Hungry Nation have an equal opportunity approach to the heavenly snack that is the pork bun, but it wouldn’t be a proper food fight without conflict. Good thing Immaculate Infatuation came to party. 

On team momofuku sits Andrew Steinthal and as we mentioned above, the momofuku pork bun gives him a reason to get up every morning. The winning ingredient? Hot sauce, of course. Sitting in the opposing ring on team IPPUDO is Chris Stang. And the top three reasons why the IPPUDO bun owns are mayonnaise, mayonnaise and, you guessed it, mayonnaise. Luckily, things stay clean as our Tastemakers stick to sparring with words. But then again, we didn’t catch what happened after the cameras stopped rolling.
