Fresh Five: Searching for Mexican Treasure

This week’s installment of Fresh Five finds us hot on the trail of authentic Mexican cooking treasures. Luckily, our expedition begins and ends in the Mmm Me Gusta kitchen. We didn’t even need a map! It is pretty much 99 percent possible we are the best culinary explorers to ever trowel the interwebs. Or, all the credit goes to Claudia for traveling to Mexico and procuring the treasures herself. That also seems plausible.

Claudia’s top five most cherished Mexican finds just might surprise you. There’s a gorgeous wooden spoon given to her by the chef at a Cuban restaurant near Cancún. Or a molcajete, an old-fashioned stone tool used to grind vegetables and spices eons before the Vitamix was invented. You can see it in all its mashing glory in her Molcajete Sauce episode!

And without giving too much away, Claudia includes one item intended not so much for cooking as it is for enjoying while you cook. We’ll give you a hint; it’s an adult beverage and Pee Wee Herman once danced on a tabletop to a song by the same name. But this isn’t the kind of adult beverage you’ll find flowing down the ice luge at your local fraternity party, Claudia keeps it muy classy.
